Weight loss, Dietary Advice and Statin Therapy in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

May 8, 2008

Management of NAFLD involves weight loss, controlling  metabolic syndrome and treating dyslipedemia. This retrospective study  looks at effect of dietary advice and lipid lowering drugs, particularly statins, on patients with NAFLD and dyslipedemia.

This  study  concludes  that weight loss is associated with a lowering of serum ALT levels in NAFLD, and that the use of statins to treat concurrent dyslipidaemia is efficacious and does not lead to a significant deterioration in serum ALT.
My previous post on NAFLD is worth browsing through.
